Preparing for Our Offshore Trip

We launched early morning from Marathon under ideal spring conditions—clear skies, light winds, and a solid crew ready to go. Our destination: the offshore waters of the Florida Keys, a prime zone for deep sea fishing in spring.

This trip focused on a mix of techniques: trolling for mahi-mahi, jigging for tuna, and deep dropping for grouper and snapper.

Trolling Near the Reef: Chasing Mahi-Mahi

We started by trolling along the reef line. It didn’t take long before we hooked into a solid mahi-mahi, which gave us the type of fight the Florida Keys are known for.
